In Pope Francis’ encyclical on ecology and care for God’s creation1 which was addressed to every person on the planet “because we all share a common home – the earth” he focussed on a number of important themes including:
- A Moral and Spiritual Challenge. The ecological crisis, Pope Francis writes, is a summons to profound interior conversion — to renew our relationships with God, one another, and the created world.
- Care for God’s Creation. God created the world and entrusted it to us as a gift. Now we have the responsibility to care for and protect it and all people, who are part of creation. Protecting human dignity is strongly linked to care for creation.
- We are All Connected. We are connected to the rest of the human family, to the created world, and to those who will come after us in future generations.
CTK is committed to caring for the planet and responding to the Pope’s call to action. CTK aspires to care for God’s Planet by becoming a leader in sustainability and environmental protection.
Through the teaching of the Catholic Social Principles and the 17 United Nations Sustainability Goals, we want to motivate all of our students, staff, visitors and community to follow a forward-thinking approach towards protecting our environment – for now and for future generations. Our aim is to reach carbon neutrality by 2030 and to encourage all our pupils, staff and their families and communities to continue to follow this sustainable focus outside our school grounds.
These efforts aim to nurture a more sustainable community and prepare students to tackle environmental challenges. We are working with the following organisations:
