Our aim is to encourage more pupils to travel actively, by walking, cycling or scooting.

Travelling actively to school is a great way to form positive habits, helps create a more sustainable future and it improves health and wellbeing. More people travelling actively for short, everyday journeys means less traffic on the roads, easing congestion and reducing pollution.

Throughout this academic year we have been taking part in the Living Streets WOW campaign. That means we’ve been walking, scooting or cycling to school as much as we can – to keep cars off the road, especially around the school site and the air cleaner! The campaign involves us tracking how everyone gets to and from school each day and encouraging people to walk and cycle more often. If that isn’t possible then children can park ten minutes away from school and walk the last part of the journey. Each month badges are given out and a class award is given to the most active class.  Our school has recorded a total of 2463 active trips, of which 1181 were walking all the way. This means 30% of trips were walking, a 36% increase from your baseline at the start of the year. Not only this, but this term our school has seen a 39% decrease in car trips from baseline, too. We feel that our hard work is making a difference.

Travel can have a big impact on emissions, so we encourage our children and staff to reduce their car use where possible. See below for our school Travel Plan.
